Name: Mr. James Robert Thurmond Date: September 13th, 1953 - July 22nd, 2010 Obituary: Mr. James (Jim) Robert Thurmond, affectionately referred to as "Nimmers" departed this life July 22, 2010. Jim lost his battle with cancer surrounded by his daughter Trina and other family members. Jim was born September 13, 1953 in Mt. Pleasant Iowa, son of Robert and Doris Thurmond. Jim was a self employed concrete finisher for many years. He was later employed at the Holiday Inn as Maintenance Supervisor until his retirement. Jim enjoyed his years there and embraced the many good friends that he acquired while there. Jim enjoyed hunting, playing his guitar and gardening. Jim was very passionate about his garden and gardening skills and loved to share his work with others. Jim was always in the ready to help anyone in need when asked or not, a great friend to all. Jim was a ace at practical jokes and no one was spared! He loved to take any of the children in his life on nature walks and share his knowledge with them. He also would do "fun" things with the children, such as, drive the riding lawn mower or sit on his lap while "driving" the car. Jim will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, his best friend and brother in law Bob and friend Ken. Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his loving daughter Trina, girlfriend Sharon, grandchildren, Deanna, Kayla-Bayla, Jacob, Lily and Somer, 6 sisters, 2 brothers and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
